Anglo-list: Suzanne Suckerman

I made Aliyah (immigration) to Haifa, Israel seven years ago at the tender age of fifty nine. The challenges of learning a new language, adjusting to a new culture, and making friends has been frustrating and at times overwhelming. Many resources are available to newcomers to Israel to help succeed in their new home. The Anglo-list website is one of them. My friend Suzanne Suckerman is the owner and developer of Anglo-list.

The site is all about bridging the social and cultural gap; what to do, how to do it and where to do it. Practical information from locals and experienced olim, is key to a successful integration and absorption. In this site you'll find information on Aliyah; learning Hebrew, employment, finances, health-care, general services, communities, Hebrew English translations and resources of all kinds.

In the Anglo-list they truly understand the challenges and frustrations of Aliyah and relocation. They understand what it is like to find your way around a new city, making friends, learning Hebrew and finding a suitable job. They even understand the challenges of dealing with the bureaucracy at the government offices. Suzanne herself is an immigrant, who immigrated to Israel with  her family from South Africa.

Hundreds of Aliyah and relocation tips make this site unique; the Israel education system, local transport options, the housing market, and shopping and consumer issues in Israel. They offer aid to help you learn Hebrew; a phonetic dictionary of common Hebrew words and phrases will get you communicating from day one, and so will the list of Israeli and Hebrew slang words and expressions. Translations of all kinds; your payslip, household bills, and Israeli bank documents, have been included. They address your finances, your Aliyah budget and will even teach you to save and stretch your Israeli shekel.

Resources and contact information for the various government offices, emergency services, Jewish Federations, embassies, consulates and volunteer organizations are included.

You can take an active part in the site; comment on articles and share your Aliyah or a relocation story. Network socially and professionally, exchange advice and information when you join their huge on-line community on Facebook, Twitter, and Linkdin. My friends from the Haifa Writer's group posted some of my stories throughout the years and Jona's great tale about marriage in Eretz Israel has been published there as well.

There is a Business Directory which connects you with English speaking, oleh friendly, professionals in your area. The Classified Directory is the place to post your 2nd-hand items, swaps and give-aways, rentals, JOBOPPS and JOBSEEKS.

Advertisers are connected to an English speaking clientele, get extra traffic to their websites and benefit form an enhanced on-line exposure. We have promoted our writers' group with success through Anglo-list.

The site offers wonderful support to newcomers to Israel, and can be a great resource of information for those simply interested in learning about Eretz Israel. Anglo-list helped me find a great attorney, make some friends, locate social events, and learn a lot about my new home.
